Abstract

Although engineering products have their own dimensional tolerance for the mass production, CAE (Computer Aided Engineering) simulation is normally evaluated using the nominal value for each design tolerance. However, sensitivity evaluation of the tolerance effect to the response of the product performance is important from the point of view of the robust product design and the reliability of the product. Because of the recent calculation capacity improvement using high performance computing, it becomes more and more realistic to execute a large number of the calculation such as the optimization study in CAE simulation. In this paper, we evaluate the sensitivity of the driver airbag impact simulation response by taking into account the bag dimensional tolerance and inflator production tolerance. The driver airbag's diameter dimension and vent hole diameter dimension are parameterized using morphing according to the design drawing dimensional tolerance, and inflator output performance is also parameterized according to the acceptance criterion of the production.
