Abstract

Digital Image Correlation method (DIC) was applied to evaluate a dynamic deformation behavior of car body structure under a side crash test. Relative displacement of cabin inner (Center pillar, Roof side rail, Roof cross member) was measured by onboard high speed stereo camera. Deformation behavior including spring-back from maximum deformation to final state was successfully observed by DIC. Displacement measured by DIC and draw-wire sensor as a reference were well corresponding. The difference of these data on 120 ms after collision was 2.0%. It's concluded that DIC is useful for the detailed evaluation of dynamic deformation of car body in crash test.
