Abstract

Today the elderly drivers are increasing in Japan and a decline of auditory sensitivity by them comes into question. In this research, an alarm system based on complex stimulus of alarm sound and seat vibration is proposed for supporting prevention of traffic signal oversight on the approach to an intersection. First, the duty ratio, frequency characteristics, and sound pressure of the alarm sound are investigated by the subjective sound quality evaluation. Next, an appropriate position and characteristics of seat vibration are investigated. Furthermore, an effective alarm system by complex stimulus using alarm sound and seat vibration is verified by the subjective evaluation using a driving simulator.
