Abstract

Current study investigated which cognitive functions were related with occurrence of the backward maneuver and merging behaviour in highway. We found that the cognitive function for re-mapping of the intrinsic - extrinsic coordinate was correlated with driving performance on backward maneuvers, particularly, parking (Experiment 1). We also found that both of the cognitive functions in attention and its switching and in decision-making caused individual differences in merging behaviour at highway ramps (Experiment 2).
