The effect of sun glare direction on traffic accident occurrence in Chiba was analyzed. It was found that the rate of rear-end accidents tended to be higher when the sun was behind the vehicle. The rate of right- and left-turning accidents tended to be higher when the sun was in front of the vehicle. The rate of left-turning accidents tended to be higher when the sun was in front or on the left. Accidents between right-/left-turning cars and oncoming cyclists/pedestrians tended to be migh higher when the sun was in front of the vehicle.
