Abstract

In Japan, the number of traffic fatalities regarding pedestrians still remains large number. In order to prevent traffic accidents, the evaluation method of hazard for crossing pedestrians becomes important in the design of the driver assistance system. In this study, near-miss incidents at signalized intersection during yellow phase are investigated utilizing the incident data collected with drive recorders. In previous researches, the driving risk during yellow phase are often explained with the dilemma zone. In this research, the obtained near-miss incidents are not in agreement with the area. Therefore, another method to fully evaluate the risk is required. In order to evaluate the risk for crossing pedestrians, three indices describing risk for sudden stopping, entering and passing to intersections are proposed.
