Abstract

This study uses collision-prevention support information at a blind intersection as an example to discuss a methodology for estimating the collision mitigation ratio of the collision avoidance information system. It also discusses the methodology of estimating the optimal value of the collision mitigation ratio based on the Cost-Benefit Analysis and the acceptable reliability of the sensors. Through Monte Carlo simulations and a driver model, the frequency of collisions to the vehicle crossing the blind intersection and the acceptable delay time of the information to achieve the optimal value of the collision mitigation ratio was estimated.
