Abstract

A human body finite element (FE) model with muscles of whole body was used for investigating mechanism of femur fractures in frontal impacts in fundamental study to elucidate mechanism of femur fractures caused by impacts between vehicular interior structure and knees of an occupant during frontal impacts in real-world accidents. Parametric study was performed to investigate effects of muscle tension and change in mechanical properties of bones and muscles with aging on mechanism of femur fractures.
