Abstract

The study examined the effects of impact velocity and fetus/placenta conditions in frontal impacts using the pregnant FE model developed in the previous study. The model indicated that the loading level to the mother's body was relatively greater when the impact velocity was higher, while no significant difference was found among head positions (up or down) of the fetus and placenta locations in the uterus. Relatively larger strain was found in the placenta when it's located at the anterior wall of the uterus. The results suggested that the loading level to the mother's body would not necessarily correlate to that to the fetus.
