Abstract

The number of traffic accident casualties has been decreasing due to the improvement in automobile body structure, occupant protection system, and emergency medical care. However, the number of the persons injured in traffic accident remains high. Therefore, it is crucial to analyze actual accidents in order to design concrete safety measures for future automobile safety. In this study, a database linking traffic accident, permanent disability, and traumatic injury was developed. By using this database, an in-depth analysis of injuries, occurrence of permanent disabilities, and accident types in relation to the different affected parts of the human body were conducted.
