Abstract

Prediction of injured body regions and injury severity from available accident data can lead to more appropriate and hastier emergency care for accident victims.

PURPOSE of this study was to develop a method in order to obtain injury prediction equation by utilizing accident database of numerous computer simulation results. A virtual database of frontal collision accident was constructed from 324 simulation results using occupant multi-body model and a simplified vehicle interior model. Prediction equations for head, thorax and thigh injury probability were derived from ordinal logistic regression analysis of the accident database. Validity of the prediction equations were evaluated by comparing prediction results to real world accident data.
