Abstract

A human FE model with muscular bar elements including skeletal and muscular parts of whole body was applied to frontal impact simulations with a vehicular sled model. Muscle activity was estimated based on EMG data obtained from volunteer tests and was assigned to the muscle models in order to simulate occupant bracing conditions in pre-impact braking. In this study, we investigated how occupant bracing conditions could affect occupant motions and impact forces on the human body during frontal impacts.
