Abstract

About half of vehicle-pedestrian accidents occur on non-crosswalks, such as when a pedestrian runs into the street. In this paper, using data obtained from driving recorders, we analyze and classify the pedestrian behavior when drivers experience near-accidents with pedestrians on non-crosswalks. We then model the pedestrian behavior for incorporation into our traffic simulator STREET which evaluates safety systems.
