Abstract

A tactile interface is expected to be effective information display for driver assistance systems. It is important to clarify the relation between the physical characteristics of seat vibrations and the perceived urgency carried by that signals. In this paper, we propose an urgency-map that shows the relation between the basic seat vibration characteristics of alarms (frequency, pithch and intensity) and the individual perceived urgency. And we conducted an experiment to study the efficacy of a seat vibration alerts and how they affect a driver's response to imminent situations while distracted.
