Abstract

This paper describes improvement of simulation accuracy with a shell honeycomb ODB model. It was a technical issue that simulation result with deformable barrier model wasn't sufficiently accurate for comparing barrier force history to the test. Simple compression simulations of Aluminum honeycomb were performed and it was found that hourglass control for shell elements caused the difference between the test and FE result. Another shell element formulation that didn't require hourglass control was applied to honeycomb model. ODB frontal collision simulation result with the new barrier model showed much better correlation with the test than the previous model.
