Abstract

In Japan, it has been mandatory since March 2005 to equip the driver's seat of passenger cars with the safety belt reminder system (SBR). To confirm the effect of SBR, the following two items have been conducted in this survey. (1) Survey on the ratio of safety belt use with/without SBR: It was confirmed that SBR is very effective to increase the driver's safety belt use (from 90.1% without SBR to 97.3% with SBR). (2) Interview to users of SBR-equipped passenger cars: How and when SBR is activated were clarified, positive and negative evaluations of SBR functions were collected.
