Abstract

Emphasis is briefy placed on the current need to take up a sport to prevent the establishment of the incorrect postures more frequently observed in young persons, and it is suggested that rowing in particular can assist body development through its correct and harmonious influence on muscles, bones and joints during growth. The stages of an oarsman's stroke are analysed. It is shown that rowing exploits the latest motor activity requisites to promote the harmonious growth of the body, since the muscles on each side of the spine work symmetrically and place the trunk in the correct position.
