Abstract

Continuing a years-long upward trend, the proportion of US adults aged 35 to 50 years who reported binge drinking reached a "historic" high in 2022, with almost a third of people stating that they had consumed 5 or more drinks in a row in the past 2 weeks. Use of other substances, such as marijuana and hallucinogens, also increased among midlife adults compared with previous years, according to a National Institute on Drug Abuse report that included survey responses from 5450 people.

Compared with prior years, younger adults also experienced an increase in substance use, including in nicotine vaping and daily marijuana use, based on data from 4628 respondents aged 19 to 30 years...
