Abstract

How to understand violence suddenly inflicted by the teenager to himself, when he tempts to suicide? Are parental imagos unconsciously involved in this violent scenario? The authors will be trying to answer to these questions. The thought focuses on the weight of the original objects carried by the teenager committing suicide, maybe without his knowing. Self-attack may protect parental imagos, perceived as fragile, from violence. Extracts of a case history of a young teenager having committed suicide will illustrate the violence of scenarios where parental imagos appear. This violence may be in contrast with the obvious placidity of real familial context. The comparison between unconscious representations of parental imagos and the Sophocles' tragedy Oedipus the King bring the authors to interrogate themselves about the links between traumatism and sacrifice, the traumatism fixing the violent scenario and the sacrifice repeating it in an attempt to expiation. May suicidal gesture be understood as a breach in a shell of silent and pretences? © 2009 Elsevier Masson SAS. All rights reserved.
