Abstract

After investigating pathographies of more than 1500 composers, we extracted more than 50 composers who attempted to commit suicide. Suicides were caused by different depressive conditions, but also sometimes by various unfavorable life conditions or situations. The suicide attempts interrupted their creative work and usually after the unsuccessful attempts their creative work decreased and they composed less. Composers who died committing suicide were "less known" (with an exception of P.I. Tchaikovsky) and "well- -known" composers were not successful in attempting suicide. The aim of this article is to emphasize the need for special psychological and psychiatric support toward every human being, but especially to the eminent composers in every depressive conditions, first of all pre-suicidal.
