Abstract

Cultural Christian refers to the people worshiping Christ and practicing Christian dogmas faithfully without accepting baptism, participating Christian rituals and joining the Church. Akutagawa Ryunosuke had close relations with Christian culture. In his childhood he was introduced to Christianity and showed artistic interest in Christian culture. Later he wrote a series of works with the theme of Christian culture, i.e. Kirishitanmono. Moreover, he had wandered in front of the doorway of the church. He even attempted suicide pillowing the Bible. He manifested his rational identity as a cultural Christian by a transcendental way of Mukyokai in aspects of the attitude to, understanding of and belief in Christianity. © Copyright by Foreign Literature Studies.
