Abstract

The use of isotretinoin in the treatment of acne vulgaris is associated with controversial issues regarding how to minimize the risk of teratogenicity in isotretinoin recipients, and its putative association with depression/suicide and inflammatory bowel disease. Current data for these three therapeutic controversies are presented, together with practical approaches to address these potential complications in patients with severe, treatment-recalcitrant acne. © 2013 Springer International Publishing Switzerland.
