Abstract

Suicidal behavior is an issue of great concern for pediatric psychologists, as well as primary care providers. Primary care providers are often at the forefront of managing depression and suicidal behaviors in children and adolescents, because only a small percentage of these youths receive specialty treatment from mental health professionals. This article uses a case illustration to highlight the challenges of managing acute suicidality in the primary care setting, focusing on the opportunities available in collaboration between primary care and pediatric psychologists. © 2013 American Psychological Association.
