Abstract

The Catholic Church and its Caritas object to medically-assisted suicide. Hospitals must not be forced to offer this option. The available counselling services must also provide information on support services offered by the Church. The Church must examine whether its pastoral and charitable services are accessible. Legislators must ensure that comprehensive suicide prevention measures are in place. A preventive health and social policy contributes towards suicide prevention. © Zeitschrift für medizinische Ethik, Basel. All rights reserved.
