Abstract

The article discusses the debates around end-of-life issues (euthanasia, assisted suicide) in France, the ongoing legislation (Claeys-Leonetti Law) and the possible developments in the coming months or years. The relevant individual and collective issues are highlighted - not only with regard to the treatment and accompaniment of patients, but also the demands in the name of autonomy and human dignity. Moreover, a certain bad dying remains to be perceived. Serene debates turn out to be very difficult due to the emotionally charged nature of the issues raised and the attempts of the pro-choice representatives to use all means to arrive at a law that legally regulates the end of life. This is despite the fact that assisted suicide is already not illegal according to certain criminal lawyers. © Zeitschrift für medizinische Ethik, Basel. All rights reserved.
