Abstract

An extensive, cross-disciplinary literature has developed in city planning since its emergence as a profession over seventy years ago. This article surveys reference sources that serve as access points to the literature on the physical aspects of city planning in the United States. Comprehensive bibliographies, historical and biographical works, and the publications of professional organizations are covered in the context of the historical development of this literature. Currently available city planning research tools and sources for the special topics of cities, housing, and historic preservation are also discussed.
