Abstract

An account is given of a unique, national suicide prevention movement. Random study of over 2,000 adults in 1975 showed a 92% level of knowledge and a highly favourable 'public image'. This supports the suggestion that the Samaritans have contributed significantly to the one-third suicide reduction in Britain since the movement was nationally organized.
