Abstract

A questionnaire was used to investigate the amount of suicidal ideation in a sample of University students and two control groups from general practice. A high proportion of students (55%) and of the General Practice group (45%) admitted to some suicidal ideation in their life time. The study confirmed the excess of females over males concerning all aspects of suicidal ideation and behaviour. The significance of these findings is discussed.
