Abstract

A physician may be the first or only person outside an abused child's family who comes in direct contact with the evidence of abuse. How do physicians react in such cases? Findings of this study suggest that physicians are conservative in their attitudes, have a limited knowledge of abuse-related issues, and are reluctant to report suspected abuse cases. The implications of this for social workers are explored.
