Abstract

A recent attempt to climb Mount Everest was foiled due to avalanche. This incident resulted in five casualties occurring at 21,000 ft (6,400 m) above sea level and 400 miles (643 km) from the nearest hospital. The problems encountered in their resuscitation and evacuation are discussed and recommendations made to avoid similar difficulties in the future.
