Abstract

A review of studies on the variation in suicidal behavior over the menstrual cycle identified only five studies with data presented in sufficient detail that they could be pooled, providing a sample of 400 menstruating women. A deficit in acts of attempted suicide in week three of the cycle was revealed, and it was suggested that this supports a hormonal explanation of the variation.
