This report gives an educational overview of: 1. Management implications of information technology in research, public health and policy development 2. Modern developments in death investigation, injury prevention and disaster management 3. The dangers of applying global analysis to individual health care situations and vice versa 4. Mechanisms that can be used to identify diffuse disaster in global and individual medical practice 5. The impact of informatics in areas of medical services which rely upon observational studies rather than validated clinical trials to develop knowledge bases and 6. A paradigm shift in health care policy towards client driven services and the implications for medical informatics.
