Abstract

Heart disease is the number one cause of death in the United States. Primary prevention efforts have focused on adult populations even though there is evidence that heart disease risk factors are sometimes present in early childhood. Due to the nature of the game, adolescent male American football athletes may participate in behaviors that increase heart disease risk such as power weight training and no aerobic exercise, increased calorie and fat intake, and increased substance use.
