Abstract

Violence against women in an intimate relationship is a public health issue that requires a multidisciplinary approach. Certain factors can make it hard for the victim to report an episode of domestic violence. It is the duty of health professionals to help these patients understand this problem in order to avoid interventions that might lead to secondary victimization. In this clinical case we describe some of the detection and intervention difficulties related to a case of domestic violence against women expe- rienced in a mental health centre. Narrative therapy for traumatic experiences, applied from gender-specific perspective, is an accessible and efficacious option for the treatment of psychopathological consequences of violence in a mental health centre.
