Abstract

This paper explores some of the components and parameters necessary for successful achievement of the goal for recreation and socialization programs. This goal, helping older adults maintain the highest possible level of physical and mental functioning, is facilitated when group leaders provide a variety of programs and encourage participation. Participation is, in turn, enhanced by using a variety of motivational techniques. Success is measured not in terms of simple attendence, but by the ability of a group to achieve its stated goals.
