Abstract

This article examines types of therapeutic activities that can be utilized by the recreation professional when planning programs for the isolated resident in the nursing home settmg. The article investigates the four components of Milieu Therapy (i.e., Reality Orientation, Sensory Stimulation, Remotivation Therapy and Resocialization and demonstrates the advantages of each modality. In addition to t A is, the article focuses on therapeutic activity that is normally conducted in a group setting (such as grooming, seasonal activities, patient aide work, etc.) and examines methods that can be utilized in ada ting each activity to better meet the needs of the individual resi a ent.
