Abstract

The Hospice Concept is to care for terminally ill pa- tients in their home, providing symptom control, pain rehef, and emotional support; The palien1 is allowed 10 die at home if helshe chooses, which most patients do. As willing as famil caregivers are to provide 24 hour care, this sometimes becomes d ifficult and ex- hausting. Until recently, although nursing home care was available, it was often prohihitive financially. Recent legislation now allows qualified hospices to become Medicare Certified providing quality nursing home care to those patients who qualify for Medicare Insur- ance. This places IheActivity Director in an important role as part of the extended Hospice Team.
