Abstract

The study discussed in this report shows that offenders serving community corrections orders, particularly parole, have a higher probability of death than those in prison, who in turn are more likely to die than people of the same age and gender in the broader community. The authors identify risks faced by these offenders, and especially high risk drug and alcohol behaviour. They also consider duty of care and related issues.
