Abstract

This article describes a $1.67 billion multimodal design-build project that was recently completed in Denver, Colorado. The Transportation Expansion (T-REX) project improved 17 miles of highways and added 19 miles of light rail to reduce congestion in the Denver metropolitan area. The project was completed on time and within budget, in part due to a close partnership between the Colorado Department of Transportation, the Denver Regional Transportation District, the U.S. Federal Highway Administration and the Federal Transit Administration. Representatives from other states are examining the T-REX project as a model for their own multimodal projects.
