Abstract

This article gives an overview of the State Route 125 South Project in San Diego County, California. The Otay River Bridge is the signature structure of the project, which is also known as the South Bay Expressway. It features the only continuous north-south regional thoroughfare in the southern part of San Diego County and is the also the first toll road in San Diego. The article discusses some of the construction methodologies that were used in the project as well as the recreational trails that were created or enhanced. Also mentioned are the efforts that were made to restore or preserve habitats and mitigate environmental impacts.
