Abstract

This is a summary of the revisions to "Guidelines for Residential Subdivision Street Design, a Recommended Practice of the Institute of Transportation Engineers" approved by the Institute in February 1993. The ITE Technical Committee updated the 1983 report on design of local and collector residential subdivision street elements, including intersections. A few changes have been made to the original existing guidelines for purposes of clarification. The paper gives the current recommended practice and briefly discusses the revisions. The areas covered are as follows: traffic considerations in subdivision planning and layout; design elements for residential subdivision streets; design elements of local streets; design elements of collector streets; and design elements of intersections.
