Abstract

This study reviews the main components of accidents in New Zealand that contribute to the overall number of accidents, compares road safety parameters with other countries and explores strategies to improve safety performance on New Zealand roads. It was found that young male drivers were found to contribute significantly to traffic deaths and despite the fact that wearing seat belts is compulsory, a substantial number of drivers involved in accidents did not use them.
