Abstract

This article discusses 4 major changes in traffic control device standards that will impact on highway safety: the 1988 "Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices" (MUTCD); the rewriting of Part VI of the MUTCD; the future of the MUTCD; and the 17 changes that were adopted by the Federal Highway Administration. Each of these areas is discussed in some detail.
