Abstract

This article is a discussion of the driving task, driver characteristics, and driver performance. The discussion of driver characteristics covers driver fatigue, driver alcohol consumption, young drivers, elderly drivers, and driver attitudes, motives and emotion. The importance of driver education is noted, as well as efforts to improve driver behavior. Traffic safety campaigns, and elements that must be targeted to ensure success of such campaigns are noted.
