Abstract

Based upon the figures that over half the people killed on European roads are not in motor vehicles pedestrian accidentology is given, as is information on experimental collisions. A synthesis yields: For a given speed the height of the bumper, the shape, the height and rigidity of the front section of the vehicle, and the length of the hood, command the overall kinematics of the pedestrian. Proposed objectives for improved vehicles are accompanied with their respective solutions. (MW)
