Abstract

The method described is based on a modification of the adh-analysis, in which the blood samples are not denaturated. In this case however, the sample is transferred to a piece of absorbing material after dilution with water. The piece of filtered paper is brought beforehand in a little glass cup, welded on the wall of glass reaction vessel-Erlenmeyer, some centimetres above the bottom of the vessel. Afterwards the reaction mixture, adh, nad and buffer, is dispensed into the reaction vessel, the latter closed and the enzymatic reaction goes on, merely governed by a diffusion process of the alcohol into the reaction mixture. This method is now going to be automated. In order to increase the number of blood samples per chemist hour, an apparatus is developed in which the human action is minimized but which still retains the accuracy and precision. The apparatus which consists of two parts coupled together is described in the paper. (TRRL)
