Abstract

Accidents evolving from drunk driving could be truly perilous, whereas we treat it with levity. Hence, advocacy for "consciousness raising" of alcoholism prevention and people making realise the negativities of this phenomenon. This paper provides a key underlying factor in alcoholism. The paper identified strong link between smoking, alcoholism, drunk driving, and automobile accident. It advocates strict adherence to this for preventing accident tragedy of drunk driving. This paper noted a strong relationship between smoking alcoholism and accident. The causation antidotal effect of tobacco makes driving of stimulating liquors the natural consequences of smoking (Albert Ghion, (1881). Furthermore, "smoking induces drinking, drinking jaundice, and jaundice death" John Lizars (1859). The wholesale solution to this phenomenon is prevention - oriented systemic approach. This paper establishes alcoholism as a strong causation of automobile accidental injury. Yet so far in Nigeria there has not been serious education nor enforceable legislation on this issue. Considering the present and future consequences in terms of impairment, economic problems and high cost of treatment, therefore sets a sustainable framework and guideline towards institutionalizing preventive measures for primary accident as a long-lasting and ultimate objective.
