Abstract

A urine multiple drug test was evaluated for opiates, cannabis, cocaine and amphetamine, the CORTEZ Drugscan 4 Drugs, in comparison with Frontline for cannabis, opiates, cocaine and Syva Emitt II for amphetamines. The use of Road Side Testing is crucial for police officers, regarding to the long time required for laboratory tests. In the absence, in the French practice, of real impairment evaluation procedures, mainly due to the large use of breath analysers for alcohol, the prosecutions of impaired drivers rest on biological evidences. Despite the lack of relationships between the presence of drugs in urine and the drivers impairment, the detection of drugs in urine can be used as a first step, leading in case of positive result to a blood sampling and a clinical evaluation.
