Abstract

Severe injuries to the legs sustained by motorcyclists are well known. To elucidate the state of affairs of crash protection of motorcyclists legs, and to describe the nature and size of the problem, the following studies have been carried out: (1) a comprehensive study of the literature on the protective effects of motorcycle crash bars; (2) a study of the frequency, nature and outcome of significant injuries to motorcyclist's legs and (3) a study of the use of crash bars and the influence of these items on the injury patterns in an accident population. Some of the results of these studies are presented. (TRRL)
