Abstract

It is a well established fact that mathematical models play a very significant role in predicting the biodynamic response of the human body subjected to vehicular crash conditions. Properly developed models of the human body provide a sound basis for the design of support-restraint systems and vehicles as well. This paper is concerned with the collection of active muscle force data for the upper and the lower limbs. Some representative results are presented from experiments conducted on 20-22 year old male and female subjects to determine their isometric muscle resistance for different orientations of the limbs with respect to the torso. The data obtained can be applied to the next generation models of the human body. (TRRL)
